13th September: Perth (Fremantle)

One of the elimination finals was played tonight at Subiaco between Fremantle Dockers and Port Power (Adelaide). Fremantle was dressed in purple and when we were making our way between stations, everyone was in purple except one lone couple who sported the blue and black of Port! Very courageous – especially as Adelaide won!!

We caught the bus and then the train to Fremantle. A cruise liner was in, the Sea Princess. A gastric virus had gone through the passengers and crew and she spent an extra day in port and now we have heard that the next cruise has been cancelled because an engine is also ill! Repairs have to bee made!!

We ladies found the Fremantle Markets which were bustling with people. We all found some wonderrful stuff. I especially loved the glasswork. However, I don't buy expensive glass when we are still so far from home in a caravan! We split up and did our own thing and I bought a few souvenir things as well as a scarf for me! We spent all morning there!

Meanwhile, the men breezed through and then went to a beer tasting at a boutique brewery, Little Creatures. We met them there and Gail and Lorraine did a beer tasting too. I think I disappointed Glen because I didn't. I just don't like beer! The others enjoyed the beers and would recommend the brewery to anyone. However, not the restaurant next door. Noise was horrific, it was very crowded, the food was less than satisfactory and expensive! Gail had salmon that was not cooked in the middle and when she complained, they gave her prawns instead. She actually got food poisoning from it and spent all night being ill! Not a happy chappy in the morning!

We visited the Maritime Museum in the afternoon. Gail spent an hour or so in there; Glen and I sat and had coffee, looking at the water as it was a simply stunning day; Murray went with Lorraine and they went shopping some more. (Lorraine loves shopping and takes every opportunity to do so. She examines everything!) I bought a fleecy jumper as we went through to the train, for $6.50. Now I hear it will become hot this week!!

  1. Good to hear your latest doings. Fremantle is one of our favourite spots and we usually visit there each trip. Last time we picked Mary and Harold ( Gavs parents ) up when they returned from South Africa on the Queen Mary. We have had another stunning day. Pleased to see your comments. Anne is still having trouble posting comments although she can read the blog.
