18th
July: Broome
We have arrived in Broome,having
completed the first 6,000 van kms of our trip. (Both cars have done
more, of course – the X-Trail over 8,000) That is about 1/3 of the
distance our little vans will travel.
This is a very full but dusty park. I
had great difficulty booking a spot. Most caravan parks don't take
bookings and the ones that do are full!! But we are out on Port
Road. From my map, I thought it would be quiet. Huh! They've built
two more major roads since then and we seem to have trucks going past
all night! Big fence all the way around though which Amanda warned
mewe would need!
Not an exciting drive here. We packed
up and went to the wharf so that Gail could observe the low tide
which here is about 11 metres down. Until you see it, it is hard to
imagine. We stopped at Myall bore on the way out to get a better
photo but, as it was dull and overcast, I don't think we achieved
much. The road to Broome is flat and featureless. Not even a little
mountain range to stir the senses. Easy driving though!
I
wasn't sure when Amanda finished work but before I could ring her,
she rang us. Maybe, she didnt believe we would be here on the 18th
as I had said! For those of you who don't know, Amanda is my sister
Lorraine's youngest daughter. Recently married and with a little
girl Larni, she and Jason live and work in Broome. She sounded
excited to hear we were here and we will see her tomorrow.
First stop today: Chemist for
medication and then Information Centre. I measured my blood pressure
at the chemist: 122/70. Amazing! This life must suit me! (Glen, as
per usual, is going out the door backwards!) Nice girl at the
Information Centre was very enthusiatic about the Cape Leveque Road
to Glen and so, Denis and Beth, we will take your advice and go.
Halleleujah! TPG works here. First
time since Mt Isa!
