July: Kununurra
A
rest day before we go to the Bungles. Mostly we went shopping for
groceries and Gail bought some Argyle diamonds as you do in
Kununurra. I didn't!! Glen repaired the X-trail and bought a new
jack. We bent the other one getting the car out of the sandbog.
Both Gail and Glen cleaned windscreens so that theycould see out of
them. Glen had a chat to a guy who was going up the Gibb River Road.
Weare not! 120 cars / vans are wrecked there in a normal week
during the dry season or so we were told! Why would you ? It's like
the Telegraph track. The domain of the foolhardy who think they have
something to prove. Not us!!
Kununurra
has a very real tourist season when hoardsof grey nomads visit.
Today, half a dozen enormous vans dropped in. Apparently, Coles
turns over $1million a week at this time of the year and has
difficulty making just $1 million the whole of the rest of the year
during the wet. There are 5 big caravan parks in town and today this
one was turning away vans. A lot of people on the move!
There
are some noisy teenagers and their teachers from Sydney at the BBQ
just over from us. No hot water tonight!!
We
are going to the Bungles tomorrow, have a helicopter ride and then
drive in. We then go to Hall's Creek and Fitzroy Crossing. Who knows
when we will have internet access again! I will write the blog but
post when we can.
